This bill makes drastic changes to Florida alimony law. It's harmful policy for stay-at-home parents and low-wage spouses, allowing challenges to decades-old alimony settlements thought to be final, and allowing ex-spouses to stop alimony payments upon retirement. Known as Miya's law, this legislation requires landlords to conduct background screenings, including a criminal history and sexual offender check on employees, and authorizes landlords to disqualify applicants who exhibit a history of violent criminal offenses. Also strengthens requirements regarding access to tenant premises. It passed both chambers and awaits Gov. DeSantis' signature or veto.

This new political map for Florida's congressional districts was a direct attack on democracy and on Black representation by Gov. Ron DeSantis. It cuts the number of Black held Florida congressional seats in half, despite the Fair Districts amendments in our Constitution that prohibit this sort of district drawing.
